Frequently Asked Questions
How long has Berry Wealth Strategies been in business?
The principal of our firm, Tom Berry, has been working with clients in the financial services industry since 1984. In 2009, the company began focusing exclusively on financial services, investment management and financial planning. Our firm changed its name to Berry Wealth Strategies in 2011 to better reflect our focus and strategic direction.
What is the primary business of your firm?
Our only business is to provide independent investment advice and planning to our clients.
How many clients do you currently have?
We currently have over 400 clients.
Are your advisors affiliated with any organization(s), such as a brokerage firm?
Yes, our firm has formed a relationship with LPL Financial. Client assets are held in LPL brokerage accounts which are insured through SIPC.
Do you require a minimum initial investment?
We require that new clients have at least $250,000 of investable assets.
What does the term "investable assets" mean?
Investable assets include all liquid assets (brokerage accounts, retirement accounts, trusts, etc.) that we can invest on your behalf. It does not include money tied up in a home, business, etc.
How do you charge for your services?
We charge a fee based upon the investable assets. In our advisory accounts we do not earn commissions from trading, eliminating any incentive for excessive portfolio turnover. We do not charge more for one asset class over another – there is no incentive to skew advice for our benefit.
Is it possible to receive planning or investment advice on an hourly basis?
Will you do just a financial plan for me?
Our objective is to help you work toward your long term goals; therefore, we do not provide stand-alone services.
How often will you update me?
Clients receive a monthly statement, a detailed quarterly newsletter, and participate in an annual investment review. Of course, we are always available via email and telephone and for additional meetings.
How long does it usually take to go from an initial meeting to a financial planning meeting?
We try to have the Initial, Investment Plan and Implementation Plan meetings all within four weeks, but it really depends on how quickly you provide us with all of the relevant information.
What is your historical performance?
We are investment consultants and, as such, each of our clients has a unique allocation and mix of managers, making the traditional measures of standard (composite) performance not applicable. However, each manager we recommend does have a performance record which is among the criteria we consider when selecting his/her investment.
